Instant Ramen Grilled Cheese (Printable Version)

Crispy ramen noodle buns with melted cheddar and hot sauce for a satisfying, easy-to-make treat.

# What You'll Need:

→ Ramen

01 - 1 package (about 3 ounces) instant ramen noodles (flavor packet reserved or discarded)
02 - 1 large egg

→ Cheese Filling

03 - 4 slices (about 2.8 ounces) cheddar cheese or cheese of choice
04 - 2 teaspoons hot sauce (adjust to taste)

→ For Cooking

05 - 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
06 - Salt and pepper to taste

# Directions:

01 - Bring a pot of water to a boil. Add ramen noodles and cook for 2 minutes until just tender. Drain thoroughly and let cool slightly.
02 - In a bowl, beat the egg. Add the drained noodles and season lightly with salt and pepper. Toss until noodles are evenly coated.
03 - Divide the noodle mixture into four equal portions. Press each portion firmly into a ring mold or small bowl lined with parchment paper, forming patties approximately the size of sandwich bread slices.
04 - Heat 1 tablespoon of butter in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add the noodle patties in batches if necessary and cook 3 to 4 minutes per side until golden and crisp. Remove and repeat with remaining patties.
05 - Place two cooked noodle patties on a clean surface. Top each with two cheese slices and drizzle with hot sauce. Cover with the remaining patties to form sandwiches.
06 - Wipe the skillet clean, add the remaining butter, and return sandwiches to the pan. Cook over low heat, pressing gently, for 2 to 3 minutes per side until the cheese fully melts and the exteriors are crisp.
07 - Slice sandwiches in half and serve immediately while hot.

# Expert Hints:

01 -
  • The crispy nood exterior gives way to molten cheese in the most dramatic way possible
  • Its the kind of absurd mashup that somehow works better than it has any right to
02 -
  • Overcooked noodles turn into mush instead of holding their shape, so watch that two minute timer closely
  • Compacting the noodles tightly when forming patties is what keeps them from falling apart later
03 -
  • Low and slow melting keeps the cheese contained instead of running out the sides
  • A ring mold or small bowl helps make perfectly uniform patties if presentation matters
